Publishing Update: I Have An Editor!
First off, happy April! It feels like this year is going by so fast, but maybe it's just because I've been really busy lately.
It's why I haven't been as active on Twitter, Instagram, or my blog, so I decided to write a quick little post to let you know what's going on in my writing life.
The title is true - I have an editor for my young adult fantasy novel, THE DARK QUEEN! She's given me a lot of great tips and notes, and we'll go back and forth in order to make my book shiny and polished. Then, it'll go to a proofreader before it's published in 2020.
(I feel so official saying "my editor". Seriously, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face when she first contacted me.)
I've never worked with an editor before, but I'm really liking it. It can be helpful to have a fresh set of eyes to look over your novel. Other people can spot spelling errors and plot inconsistencies that you missed (and a lot of my editor's ideas are better than mine!)
And as much as I'm grateful to my mother for being my proofreader, it's handy to have someone with a professional background in Creative Writing/English. They know tips and tricks regular people don't.
(It's why I really recommend an editor, whether you're traditionally publishing or going the self-publishing route. It can make all the difference! That being said, I understand that editors are expensive - my editor is included in my publishing deal - but still, I think it's a worthy investment. Something to think about.)
As the months pass, we get closer to my release date. A precise date hasn't been released yet - it's still estimated for February/March 2020 - but I'll let you know as soon as I do!
Besides editing the heck out of my to-be-published book, I'm still writing my horror novel, editing my middle grade fantasy novel, ELLATHINA, and working on a super secret project. (And having an editor for THE DARK QUEEN is helping me be a better editor on my other novels, too.)
Saying I'm busy would be an understatement, but it's a good kind of busy!
Next month, once my horror book and editing are finished, I'll be starting my first mystery novel. It features a teen detective, lots of intrigue and danger, and it's the first book in a saga! (To prepare, I've been reading Nancy Drew and Agatha Christie like it's going out of style. Growing up, I played all of the Nancy Drew video games, so it feels natural that I'd write about an amateur teen sleuth.)
I'll be writing a blog post about mysteries when the time comes - like I did with horror - so keep your eyes peeled for that.
All in all, I'm very happy with my career right now. Things are coming along nicely, and I can't wait to see where this journey takes me.
As always, thanks for reading!
Sincerely,
Dana
