A sneak peek of my new novel, EARTH'S CHAMPION!

Hi all!

So, as I posted on social media, I'm currently writing my 17th novel -- EARTH'S CHAMPION. Today, I'm writing chapter ten.

So far, I'm really pleased with how the first draft is going. I don't think I've ever had this much fun writing a novel before! Everything is falling into place. It's as if my subconscious already knows the story.

I'd like to share a few details. A refresher as to what it's about:

"It takes place in the mid-2100’s when the planets in our solar system are found to have intelligent life. Earth is ridden with pollution and climate change and humanity needs to find a new home.

They end up finding a utopian planet that can support life...but the aliens want it, too. To decide who gets the planet fairly, one fighter is chosen from each species to represent their home world in the Championship Games.

Seventeen-year-old Ethan Rand, who recently lost his older brother to a disease caused by pollution, signs up with nothing left to live for. Through lies, sabotage, and treachery, he must become Earth’s champion and win us all a new home...or the human race is doomed."

Some new information I'd like to share:

-The newfound planet, Eden, has miles of fields and waterfalls. It's fertile and ready to support life -- all kinds. In the future, Earth is destroyed by climate change, so humanity desperately needs this planet. (But the Martians, with all of their advanced technology, claim this planet just recently mysterious appeared. It's almost as if someone put the planet here on purpose...)

-The Ailment is what it's called when someone contracts a sickness from pollution on Earth. Some of its symptoms are coughing, chest pain, and lung cancer. This is what Ethan's brother, Bryson, dies of in the first chapter (and the reason Ethan signs up for the competition.)

-The story will have two parts. The first half will be about Ethan getting past the try-outs and human competitors. The next and final half will detail his life after he's accepted as Earth's champion and travels to a space station to battle the aliens for Eden.

-The tests are complex and created by each species. They test each champion's skills -- like strength, determination, courage, and coordination, to name a few.

-Each planet in our solar system has life (even Pluto) except for the moons. (Humans can't live on Earth's moon. It would take too long to colonize, and Eden's a perfectly good planet, ripe for the taking.)

-Ethan's grandfather, Leo Rand, is a renowned historian and xenobiologist. He knows more about aliens and their cultures than anyone else. He will be valuable during Ethan's competition.

-Every species has their own reasons for wanting the planet. (Eden is humanity's name for it. The different aliens have their own word for it in their languages.) Humanity wants the planet so they can start over -- and get away from the Ailment before more people die.

I'd like to share the different alien species:

The Martians: Mars

They are beautiful and tall with skin of bronze -- and not an imperfection in sight. Think of them as Ancient Greek gods and goddesses. They are the most advanced species in our solar system. They want Eden for exploration and colonization purposes.

Fun fact: they were the first aliens humanity made contact with. Humans tried to colonize Mars, but found a race living there instead. The Martians misinterpreted their arrival as hostile, and this led to a five-year long war called the "Red War" in the 2140's. (My novel takes place in 2185, but humanity and the Martians still don't speak. All of the aliens keep their distance, fearing and hating each other. Ethan's grandmother fought in the Red War and made it home safely to win a medal for her efforts. She later died of the Ailment.)

The Mercurian's: Mercury
They are a savage, animal race. They are quite primitive but can talk and use blunt tools. They have horns and lots of hair on their bodies. They are run by warlords and murderers. They want Eden because their planet was destroyed in a radioactive war. Much like Earth, they are desperate. The war was caused by their own selfish greed and infighting.

The Venusian's: Venus

Women rule on Venus. Their skin colors are shades of purple with glowing eyes. They are strong, fearless, and power-hungry. They hate men and subjugate them. (Leo warns Ethan to watch out for them.) They want Eden to extend their reach over the solar system and enslave more people -- namely men.

Jovian's: Jupiter

They are reptilian with great strength. Their species is heavy on military and the warrior lifestyle. But unlike the Mercurian's, they have morality and aren't as primitive. They look almost like dinosaurs/wolves. They want Eden to raise more soldiers and spread out in our solar system.

Saturnian's: Saturn

This species has merged with technology, becoming cyborgs. They have yellow eyes and machine parts inside their bodies. They are curious and logical. They want Eden for research and exploration purposes.

Uranian's: Uranus

These aliens are androgynous, emotionless, and humorous. (They won't understand the 'Uranus' jokes.) They all look the same -- pale skin, bald heads, long robes. They are driven by logic like the Saturnian's. But unlike them, the Uranian's are close-minded and know-it-all's. They can also be quite bigoted about other species. They want Eden because they don't think the other species deserve it -- that they are superior.

Neptunian's: Neptune

These aliens are blind with almost a sixth-sense. They are telepathic and creative. They are fish-like with scales. They want Eden due to their problems with overpopulation.

Plutonian's: Pluto

The Plutonian's are bug-like, intelligent, quiet, and sneaky. They are known for their espionage, subterfuge, and sabotage. They excel at making traps and playing tricks -- almost like tricksters of the galaxy. They want Eden to gain more resources for their traps and to conduct secret research.

And there you have it! A sneak peek at my latest novel.

So while I'm busy writing, I hope this helps you understand a little bit about the story. I'm excited to finish and query this one! As I mentioned before, I have a good feeling about it.

Thanks for reading! I hope you get to read my novel one day.

Sincerely,

Dana
